With reference to Colonial Office letter

No.53838/2/B/38, of the 29th December last on the subject

of Chinese refugees at Hong Kong, I am directed by Viscount

Halifax to inform you that he is not aware of any grounds

political or other on which objection might be taken to the

proposal of the Governor of Hong Kong that he should take

the measures proposed at (a) and (b) of his telegram No. 397

of the 23rd December, provided that suitable arrangements

can be made with the shipping companies concerned.

2. Copies of this letter are being sent to the

Admiralty, War Office, Air Ministry and Board of Trade.

I am,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

The Under-Secretary of State,
